Currently available is a 1 bedroom Victorian apartment at 363-E Ocean St. in Santa Cruz. It is very close to the corner of Ocean St. and Broadway where there is a 7-11 on the corner.
About the House
The Victorian house in front was built in 1888 and was fully restored in 1997. Unit E is in the ground floor of the carriage house in the rear. This unit is 520 sq. ft. The carriage house is where, in 1888, the horses were kept. In the 1920's it was converted to an apartment. The front Victorian is divided into 3 separate units. The tenants in the front house are all great people; some graduate students, some working folks.
About the Location
Ocean St. is an urban neighborhood. It is not quiet. There is traffic. The carriage house is tucked in the back and is more private. This unit also has a fenced patio so there is outside space that's private. If you are looking for a quiet typical suburban Santa Cruz neighborhood this probably wouldn't suit you.
About This Unit
Unit E has a kitchen/living room area with a south facing window. The kitchen is small but has a full size refrigerator, stove, and sink. There is plenty of cabinet space in the kitchen. A glass French door leads to the bedroom. The bathroom is off the bedroom and has a 3x3 foot shower, no tub. There is a walk-in closet off the bedroom and an outside locked storage space. The entire apartment has tile floors, no carpet anywhere. The place was just repainted and is in excellent condition.
The whole property shares a coin laundry located across the driveway. There is no street parking on Ocean St. and all tenants park in the 11 spaces on site. Utilities (water, garbage, gas, electric) are paid by the tenant. All these utilities have been running about $65 per month. This unit has an efficient on-demand gas water heater like those used in Europe. These heaters are more efficient and you never run out of hot water.
About the rental Agreement
The rental agreement is month to month. This apartment is available now. The move in costs are the first month's rent plus a $1,500 deposit. Rent on this apartment is $925 per month. No dogs are allowed and I don't rent to those who smoke. Please do not apply if you are looking for a place to play amplified music or drums.
